• 2011 Mitsubishi ASX Review

Mitsubishi has been hyping the release of the new as 2011 ASX as the future of the compact sport vehicle industry. In fact, Mitsubishi is projecting it to be the new Outlander, with a Mitsubishi Lancer front and a 1.8 liter 4-cylinder turbo diesel that boosts the performance of the already impressive 2011 Mitsubishi ASX. The Mitsubishi ASX will be the first passenger vehicle to carry a diesel engine with variable valve timing. This incredibly revolutionary motor provides about 150 horsepower and 220 foot pounds of torque, while only emitting about 0.50 to 0.53 pound CO2/mile (emitting more CO2 if it is being driven in all wheel drive).

The Mitsubishi is also expected to be very environmentally friendly, with low rolling resistant tires and regenerative braking that improves fuel efficiency considerably. In fact, Mitsubishi is promising about 35 to 49 miles per gallon, depending upon the driving conditions. Another design feature that improves the environmental friendliness of the vehicle is the low curb weight of only 3300-3400 pounds (with all wheel drive models having more curb weight than their two wheel drive counterparts).

The first Mitsubishi ASX models will be released in Spring, however the diesel model will not be available until later in the year. The good news, is the revolutionary new variable valve timing diesel will be used in many Mitsubishi products in the following years. In fact, Mitsubishi has already confirmed that the engine will be used in the Lancer in the near future. With such revolutionary engine features and a plethora of additions that improve gas mileage, the Mitsubishi is expected to be one of the most popular compact sport vehicles during the 2011 season.

  • Have you ever wondered in which move or TV programme you saw such and such car? How many movies or TV series have featured a Ferrari or a Porsche? In fact if you have any questions at all that combine cars and the cinema or TV , then you will be able to discover the answer at the Internet Movie Cars Database which can be found at http://www.imcdb.org.

The Internet Movie Cars Database might no be the only movie and car database on the web, but certainly it is the largest one and as well as cars it includes bikes, trucks and other vehicles.

You can search for a movie, or you can search for a car. In addition to factual information you will find many pictures of the cars collected from the appropriate movie.

As well as downloading information you can upload it too and should you wish to do so you will find extensive guidelines and information on how to do so.

Let’s look at an example of one way to use the site. For instance, what movies have Renault cars been featured? We simply go to the home page and look down the list of cars until we find Renault. Click on that and we get taken to a page that lists just about every Renault car and truck model that has been made; there are literally hundreds of them. There is also a similar list of Renault chassis codes.

Against every model there is a number that indicates the number of appearances that particular model has made.

Let’s look at the Renault Clio. 15 models are listed, and the total number of features that Clios have appeared in is a staggering 608, so let’s refine that by selecting the Clio Symbol which has featured in 13 movies and TV series. Click on that and we find the date of the appearance, the name of the series or movie, plus a picture of the car in that series or movie.

You can drill down further by clicking the series or movie and you will find more pictures and more information including the role played by the vehicle.

This is a great website for anyone interested in cars and films, but if you are interested in buying a new or a used car, you should go to motors.co.uk where you will find many of the models as seen in the movies!

  • With insurance prices rocketing, the choice of car for a new driver is all important. A more experienced driver might buy a car based solely on the sale price, safe in the knowledge that insurance will be cheap due to no claims bonus discounts and age. A young driver – below 25 – may well find a bargain car but needs to be aware that the insurance cost could overshadow their purchase. With this in mind, a just passed driver may benefit from a look at the insurance ratings on the Parkers website.

Group 1 is the lowest insurance bracket of all and there are some creditable cars listed such as the Volkswagen Fox. The Fox could save the young or newly licensed driver hundreds of pounds on their insurance premium. As with all Volkswagens, the Fox is a reliable little runabout or city car which looks a shade more serious than other cutesy super minis. There is a 1.2 or a 1.4 engine with both providing sufficient power for this type of car. Fuel economy reaches 46.3mpg combined cycle. It replaces the Lupo as Volkswagens entry model. Prices start at a reasonable £7,795.

The Citroen C1 is another group 1 super mini. It has a choice of 1 litre engines and starts at £8,695 new. It has an endearing look with an attractive bonnet and a nicer interior than most super minis.

If we increase the scope of cars to group 2 we see a slight move away from the city car type of vehicle and find the Corsa and the Fiesta in this category. The Fiesta earns rave reviews as a quality small car.

The new driver shouldn’t stray far beyond group 4 as this may make their vehicle hard to insure. They may receive ridiculously high quotes – into the thousands – which will add substantially to their initial outlay for the car. As a new driver, the insurance has to be factored in to whatever you pay for your new car.

  • The latest Mitsubishi Outlander one of the most outstanding four wheel motors. It has seven seats and a very spacious and well finished interior. There is a high standard and quantity of equipment and it is a good driver’s car too. Whether you are looking for the safest car you can get for the school run, or a car in which to have some of-road fun, then you won’t go far wrong with the Outlander.

Engine options include a 2.0 litre diesel which delivers 140bhp and is renowned for its reliability. It delivers plenty of torque at low revs though it is not the quietest unit on the road which it is revving high, but in terms of raw pulling power it is excellent.

There is also a somewhat more refined 2.2-litre diesel unit that delivers 154 bhp which is enough to power the Outlander from rest to 62 mph in just 9.9 seconds whilst delivering 39 mpg.

If you prefer petrol engines, then there is a 2.4 litre petrol unit that has similar performance figures to the 2.2 litre diesel but it only returns 30 mpg.

The Outlander is more a rough road car than a true off-roader. You can select two or four wheel drive from within the cabin and with four wheel drive selected you feel secure even on the worst of road surfaces, though the car is just too low to take on really rough terrain. However it is very comfortable both for both the driver and the passengers, though the third row of seats are less comfortable due to limited padding.

There is limited space in the rear with the rear row of seats unfolded, but when folded down they are flat and create a spacious carrying area.

Fundamentally the Mitsubishi Outlander is a very safe car and scored four stars in the NCAP tests, which really does make it the ideal car for the school run. It is also very reliable and generally a great car to drive.

  • If you are looking for a bargain hatchback that is just a little different from most of the hatchbacks you see on the road, then the Mitsubishi Colt could be worth considering. It has good looks; there is plenty of space for a car of this size; and it an excellent city car as well as also being quite happy on long runs.

You can choose from three petrol powered versions and one diesel. The 1.5-litre DI-D diesel is very economical and delivers 95 bhp and although you should not expect particularly great acceleration from it, it delivers plenty of torque right through the rev range, which is what you need from a family hatch.

Petrol engine versions start with a 1.1 litre 75 bhp unit which is very economical but not particularly fast. If you are looking for better performance then the 1.3 litre unit delivers 95 bhp and the 1.5 litre unit 109 bhp whilst still delivering a fuel consumption of 46 mpg. The latest model is called the Cleartec and has a 1.3 litre engine which incorporates an automatic stop go system and will deliver 57 mpg.

The Colt has been optimised for city driving, and it is surprisingly easy to park. The suspension is quite soft and although the car is very comfortable as a result, it is not the car if powering round bendy roads is your priority as there is a fair amount of body roll. However, it performs perfectly well on leisurely long distance journeys.

There is plenty of passenger space and it is generally comfortable, though when it comes to carrying luggage, space is quite restricted. If is fine with the rear seats folded out of the way, but if you have rear passengers then there is only 155 litres of boot space which is about enough for one large suitcase. The latest model has a little more luggage space though it is still fairly restricted.

If you are looking for a good reliable hatchback and you favour economy and ease of driving over high speed performance, then the Mitsubishi Colt is worthy of your attention.

  • Even though the Mitsubishi Endeavor’s styling and design has remained somewhat unchanged since it was released in 2004, it is still an attractive SUV, with a powerful V6, excellent handling, smooth riding, and a spacious comfortable cabin that is perfect for groups of all sizes. When the Endeavor was first released it was the talk of the SUV industry. Now, this year it is snatching the spotlight again, even though the competition is close on its tail with plenty of new features and revisions.

The Endeavor is a crossover sports utility vehicle available in two versions – the LS and the luxury SE. The LS version is equipped with front wheel drive, while the SE version can be bought with either front wheel or all wheel drive. The Endeavors performance matches its appearance, with a 3.8 liter V6 that creates about 225 horsepower and 250 foot pounds of torque. Even though the horsepower is relatively low in comparison to its competition, its torque gives it a a powerful boost. The fuel efficiency of the Mitsubishi Endeavor is certainly not the best, with about 15 mpg highway for the LS and 21 mpg highway for the SE.

Fortunately, the Endeavor makes up for whatever it lacks in performance by providing excellent safety features, spacious accommodations and beautiful handling. The side impact testing has returned excellent results, making the Endeavor one of the safest and most attractive SUVs on the market this season.

  • The 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse is the perfect vehicle for sports car enthusiasts in search of an affordable convertible sports coupe. Since the introduction of the new Eclipse design about four years ago the car has been a stand out form other sports coupes because it is very stylish for its price. However the style and appearance of the coupe doesn’t match up to its performance, as it seems to be lacking the engine power of a serious sports car. With a standard 4-cylinder and average fuel economy, many feel there is much to be desired in the 2011 Eclipse.

The GT version of the Eclipse houses a V6, which provides ample power, however it also overloads the front wheels with torque steer. The 2011 Mitsubishi’s Eclipse’s interior is perhaps its most appealing aspect, with stylish designs and sleek door panels. However, the materials are not the most attractive, as they are quite hard, instead of lush leather. The backseat does not have much room, as is expected in a sports coupe. The 2011 Eclipse surprisingly does not come standard with GPS navigation and several other features that are seen in modern sports car, however it makes up for this by providing an enjoyable driving experiencing with excellent handling.

Even though there is heavy competition this year for the Eclipse, it is shining against its competitors, as it is one of the last of a dying breed. If you are in the market for an old school sports coupe convertible with a new school design and a modest price tag, then you may want to look into the Mitsubishi Eclipse.

  • Mitsubishi has reshaped the sporty Evo and has given it a new luxury feel by toning down some of the racy features like the rear wing, and adding a few luxury features to boot. The interior of the Evolution MR is now lined with leather, and a vibrant LCD has been placed between the gauges, which is not only easier ton read, but also provides much more data about the car’s performance. Mitsubishi has also added a power sun roof to the equation as well, which makes it the first Mitsubishi with an aluminum roof and a sunroof. Fortunately, all of these luxury features do not take away form the incredible performance that the Mitsubishi Evolution has become known for.

The 2010 Mitsubishi Evolution steers just as beautifully as its predecessors, even with thirty additional pounds of weight packed on. In fact, this Lancer Evolution MR is actually faster than previous editions of the Lancer. Mitsubishi claims the car will consistently reach 60 miles per hour in under 5 seconds, which is a drastic improvement over the 2008 MR which hit 60 MPH in just over 5 seconds at best. With several driving modes like Sport and Super Sport mode the Evolution MR offers fine tuned performance for every type of driver. Mitsubishi has successfully eliminated the stereotype of the Evolution being strictly a racecar by adding luxury features and sleek exterior design that isn’t as likely to cause routine traffic stops. Even though the vehicle is a large improvement over its predecessors, it is still the lowest priced dual clutch luxury racing car on the market.

  • The 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is set to be released this summer, and it is creating quite a buzz amongst crossover enthusiasts. Starting at only twenty thousands dollars it is set to be one of the most affordable luxury SUVs of the 2011 season. Although relatively compact, at over 169 inches the Outlander Sport is not quite as small as the Mitsubishi Lancer. However, the Outlander Sport is slightly more elevated than the Lancer, with a reference point that is 5 inches higher. Although the Outlander appears to be sporty, Mitsubishi has stated that it is was designed for urban usage, and is not an ideal offroading vehicle.

The 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander certainly offers more luxury options than the Lancer. Amongst the optional features are panoramic sunroofs, integrated GPS navigation systems with 40 Gigabyte hard drives, 9-speaker dynamic surround sound systems, and the patented Mitsubishi wide range HID headlights. Although some models will include an optional all-wheel drive, the anticipated gas mileage of more than 30 MPG is expected to be for the front wheel drive models.

The Outlander comes with rechargeable batteries that charge using the kinetic energy of friction caused by breaking. Due to its lightweight construction and the electric power steering the 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander is expected to be one of the most fuel efficient SUVs this season. With that said, acceleration is not expected to be a strong point of the vehicle, with only about 150 horsepower in a 2-lier 4-cylinder motor. Nonetheless, the Outlander is the perfect SUV for small families in need of an economic luxury vehicle.
